Even though Mahadevapura constituency has many water sources, it has encountered water scarcity. But there have been honest efforts in the last four years to solve the water problem. Arvind Limbavali has made continual efforts to find a permanent solution to this decades old problem.

• Recently pipelines have been laid out to supply water to old CMC area villages which come under BBMP limits at a cost of around 40 Crores. People have been requested to install meters to avail the service of Cauvery water. “Meter Melas” have been organized in various wards by Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB). Public awareness about supply of water has been created through such programs. Also the rules of getting access to water have been eased.
• Bellandur, Ramanjaneya layout and Ashwathnagar which come under BBMP limits have now been provided drinking water facility.
• In last four years Zilla Panchayat engineering division has put efforts in providing water to villages by drilling 162 Borewells and laying out pipelines. 10 water storage tanks have also been constructed.
• Arvind Limbavali thinks construction of drains is also equally important. Construction of drains in 3 phases has been undertaken in old CMC limits at a cost of 162 crore and is being executed in various stages. Few of the sewage construction have been troubled due to non cooperation of contractors. However, officials have been directed to complete the work within stipulated time frame.
• Proposal to release funds has been submitted to the World Bank to construct drains, supply drinking water to 34 villages out of the 110 villages which have been newly added to BBMP. Arvind Limbavali’s efforts along with his cabinet colleagues from Bangalore to extend this to the remaining villages also will yield fruits soon.
• Arvind Limbavali is committed to solve this water scarcity issues in the best way in the coming days. Revival of lakes, de-silting and supply of Cauvery water – efforts are on to solve the problems by taking them up in various phases.
• It is commendable that using lift irrigation Yelemallappa Shetty lake water is collected in to Chennigenahalli, Nalluru, Konadasapura and Nimbekaipura tanks and is being used for drinking purpose and revival of wells as well.

Rejuvenation of lakes in a big way

Makeover and rejuvenation of Bangalore lakes is an ardent task, indeed. Makeover of the lakes located at the heart of ever growing city is even more challenging task. Imagine the difficulties of Mahadevapura with 36 lakes, the highest in Bangalore!

Visit these lakes to understand the efforts put in by Arvind Limbavali for their makeover; increasing the water table levels and their purification. The constituency’s lakes are now protected by fences. This is the first step in the restoration of lakes. As a result, the encroachment of lakes has now been put to an end.

If you visit Kaikondarahalli Lake you will get an idea of how the subsequent phases look like. The lake bunds have now been restored. The waste water from the surrounding apartments has now been stopped from getting into the lake. A tiny island in the middle of the lake beckons you. You can also see rare birds. For all the enthusiastic bird watchers and photographers this lake is now a bird sanctuary in city limits. The Karnataka High Court once termed the development of this lake as a role model. There are a lot of opportunities for lift irrigation here. When the whole state has forgotten this method there have been serious efforts to bring this to light in Mahadevapura.
